The Russalka Memorial was unveiled in 1902, commemorating the crew of the Russian warship Rusalka, which sank with all hands in the Gulf of Finland in 1893. A bronze angel on a granite base holds a cross out towards the sea.
It predates everything else in this collection by half a century and belongs to the Tsarist empire rather than the Soviet one. It is included because it stands on the same shoreline as Linnahall and Maarjamäe, and because it shows that the habit of building monuments along this coast did not begin in 1940.
