The Riga Radio and TV Tower stands on Zaķusala, an island in the Daugava, and was completed in 1986. Three concrete legs splay outward at the base and converge into a single shaft — a structural idea that gives it a tripod silhouette unlike any other tower of the period.
At around 368 metres it is among the tallest structures in the European Union. It is visible from most of Riga, and from the old town it appears over the rooftops as a thin vertical line belonging to a completely different century from everything in front of it.
