Karoliniškės sits on the high ground west of the Neris, and its slab blocks step along the ridge with the TV Tower behind them. The district was laid out in the 1970s, and its planning is more responsive to the terrain than the standard model usually allowed — the blocks follow the contours rather than ignoring them.
These buildings were designed to be read as a group from a distance, and they still work that way. Up close they are what they are: panel housing, weathered, patched, lived in.
