Hotel Lietuva opened in 1983 as the Intourist hotel for Vilnius — the place foreign visitors were directed to, on the right bank of the Neris with the old town laid out in front of it. Twenty-two storeys of slab, deliberately taller than anything around it at the time.
It trades now as a Radisson. The tower is essentially intact, which makes it one of the more legible survivors of a building type that existed across the whole Soviet Union: the hotel designed to receive outsiders, and to be the view they took home.
